LAKE QUINAULT — Naselle won at Lake Quinault 15-5 on March 28.
The Comets sent nine hitters to the plate in the first inning, scoring three runs. The Elks answered with four runs in their half of the inning.
The Comets took control with an eight-run third. Morgan Ridgeway blasted a two-run triple near the wall in left-field. Two batters later, Kendra Leeland hit a two-run double. Tayler Ford followed with her second double of the game. With Naselle ahead 10-4, Haley Footh doubled almost all the way to the wall to score Holly Disch. That hit gave the Comets four extra-base hits in the inning. Disch added a two-run double during a four-run fourth.
Taylor Eaton, pitching in relief of Tayler Ford, struck out nine batters over the last four innings to get the win.
SEASIDE — The Seaside Seagulls beat the Comets 22-11 in the Comets’ second game of the night on March 22.
The Comets had severe problems fielding and throwing in the first two innings, and Seaside capitalized to take a 13-0 lead. Starting pitcher Paige Ideue mostly blew fastballs by Naselle’s hitters in the early innings. However, Kendra Leeland smacked a line drive to center for a hit in the third. The Comets scored three runs in the inning with the help of some Seaside errors.
In the fourth inning, Makayla Matthews scored on a double steal with Lilly Harman. Harman took off for second with the pitch, and Matthews took off for home on the throw to second. That made it a 17-7 game. Naselle batted around in the fifth with the help of walks and hit batters and scored four more runs.
