NASELLE - The Comets came within a couple of points of knocking off undefeated Northwest Christian in a Pacific 2B League volleyball match at Naselle Oct. 21. In the end the Lady Navigators found their way to a three games to two win by taking the final game 15-7. The Comets won the first contest 25-22, NWC then won 25-22, Naselle came back to take the third game 25-23, but dropped the fourth game 25-23.
"We almost pulled it off," Coach Kim Eaton said. "The girls played very well tonight. All the girls played well defensively. We had small streaks of poor serving that cost us in the second and fourth games and then in the last game we made too many mental errors."
Carley Kitzman had a career-high 16 blocks and seven kills and played a "tremendous match" for the Comets. Taylor Wasmundt added eight kills, six of which were in the second game, and Nicole Tarabochia had five kills and "played a very solid defensive game as always" according to Coach Eaton. Haleigh See contributed 25 assists.
Eaton said, "The girls all played hard and kept fighting. We would fall behind and then catch up against the top team in our league. The girls can be very proud of the volleyball they played tonight."
Naselle is now 5-7 overall and 3-7 in the Pacific, while NWC improves to 9-0 in league play.
