NASELLE The Comets returned to their winning form and formula Friday, Jan. 14 by taking the measure of South Bend 45-27 in a Pacific 2B League game in Naselle. Defense was the key ingredient as the Comets never let the Lady Indians score in double digits in any quarter, while they piled up 40 points in the last three frames for their seventh straight league victory.
Carley Kitzman led all scorers with a dozen points and she nabbed nine rebounds and pilfered five steals for good measure. Nicole Tarabochia added 11 points, six boards, and a pair of steals and Haleigh See was generous in handing out eight assists in the win.
Makenzie Matthews with seven points and Kayti Nelson with five were effective off the Naselle bench and Ciara Sandell contributed four points and Taylor Wasmundt six to the win. Naselle was 16-52 from the field for a chilly 31 percent and made 13-23 foul shots for 57 percent, while South Bend was an icy 10-64 from the floor for 16 percent and 3-6 from the charity stripe.
The Comets are now 7-0 in league play and improve to 12-3 overall, while South Bend sinks to 1-6 in the Pacific and the Lady Indians are 6-8 overall. South Bend won the junior varsity contest.
