OYEHUT - The Naselle Comets girls' cross-country team finished third and the boys finished fourth in a cross country meet held at North Beach High School Thursday, Oct. 6. Girls' scores were: Rainier 24, North Beach 36, Naselle 64. Boys' scores were: Onalaska 24, Rainier 51, North Beach 67, Naselle 90, Mossyrock 120.

Coach Scott Smith said, "We ran hard in the sand, wind and rain. The students have logged a lot of miles this year. They have all improved their running and conditioning. This team gets along really well. They train hard and they don't complain. North Beach, Onalaska, Rainier and Mossyrock were in attendance."

In the girls' meet, Kelsey Fletcher was the second girl finisher in 25:26.7; Erin Saari "ran the first race she has finished, as her ankle injury is improving," in 26:51; Elsa Butchart is "running very well as she finished as Naselle's top girl runner," in 24:14.2; Narci Carlson is "getting stronger" and ran a 27:20.2; Collette Beaulaurier is "improving each race" and ran a 29:09; Laura Etz is "improving each race" finished in 29:40.3; Kristiina Chism ran "her first race this year with a good effort" in 33:32.9; and Sandra Rodriguez "is injured and I hope she is available for league and district," Smith concluded on the girls race.

The Naselle boys were led to their fourth place finish by Evan Hendrickson, who Smith described as, "a very good runner that should be right in the pack for a berth to state," in 19:11 Garrick Bennett was "the second boy finisher" in 21:16.8; Keegan McGuire "had his best effort" in 22:40; Dustin Parker "is making much improvement" in 23:42.9; Nathan Sultemeier "has made steady improvement" finished in 23:42.9; Stephan Griss who has a sore hip but keeps on trying," ran a 25:12.3; Robert Romaine was "not able to run as he injured his knee in PE," Smith concluded.

In the junior high meet, Naselle had two runners. Smith said, "Calen Thompson is a great kid and a steady worker and he finished first overall," in 10:39.5; Nate Reitz "is recovering from the flu, and missed two days of practice, but still finished second overall," in 10:50.9.

The Comets run in a cross-country meet this Thursday, Oct. 13, in Rainier.
