NASELLE - The Naselle track team could not match up with the depth and talent of the South Bend Indians as the Benders won both halves of a seven team track meet held on Rueben Penttila Field in Naselle on Thursday, March 31. However, the Naselle girls scrambled to a second-place finish while the Naselle boys held on for a fourth-place finish.

The Comet girls scored 92 points for their second-place finish while South Bend tallied 155 for their first place finish. Other girls scores were: 3. Ilwaco - 89, 4. Winlock - 82, 3. Wishkah - 56, 6. Oakville - 25, 7. Taholah - 4.

The Comets girls nabbed one first - by Erin Saari with a 7 foot 6 inch pole vault. Saari also added a third in the high jump at 4 feet 6 inches. The Comets raced to three second place finishes with Sandra Rodriguez at 58:8 in the 300 hurdles, Katie Klinger's with a 3:00.2 in the 800 and Sylvia Herrold at 29.7 in the 200.

Rodriguez also picked up third place points as part of the 4X100 relay along with Senft, Butchart and Carlson in 59.3, Rodriguez was also on the third place 4X200 relay along with Butchart, Revis and Senft, in 2:11.5. Katie Klinger earned third place points in the 4X400 relay along with J. Klinger, Carlson, and Fletcher, in a time of 5:03.

Other third place winners were Narci Carlson in the 100 hurdles in 21.2, Jenny Klinger with a 6:34.0 in the 1,600, and Steppe with a toss of 76 feet10 inches in the discus.

Fourth place Naselle placers were: Sylvia Herrold at 27 feet 1 inch in the triple jump and Kelli Revis with a 4 foot 6 inch high jump. Naselle fifth place finishers were: Fletchers at 1:08.8 in the 400, Butchart at 33.4 in the 200, and Katherine Herrold at 4 feet 4 inches in the high jump. Completing the Naselle girls scoring were sixth place finishers were: Herrold at 1:11.1 in the 400 and Fletcher at 12 feet 3 inches in the long jump.

Kyle Burkhalter led the Naselle placers with two seconds, at 58:2 in the 400 and at 37 feet 5 inches in the triple jump. He also was fifth in the 200 at 26.5. Carl Fredrickson finished second in the pole vault at 8 feet 6 inches and he placed in three other events. He was part of the fourth place 4X400 relay along with David Lin, Beau Keightley, and Jeremy Ray in a time of 4:28.3, fourth in the high jump, and sixth in the 200 at 27.2.

Jeremy Ray finished third in the javelin at 109 feet 2 inches and was fourth in the 100 at 13.0. Keightley completed the Naselle scoring with a sixth place at 105 feet in the javelin.

The Comets track team is now on spring break with their next meets coming Monday, April 11, when some of the athletes will take part in the Daily Astorian Invitational and Thursday, April 14, for a league meet at Ocosta.
