NASELLE - The Naselle Comets girls softball team got off to a fast start by scoring three times in the first inning, but the class 2A Seaside Seagulls came back to beat the Comets 12-5 in the Comets home opener.

The Comets' record fell to 1-1 for the early season.

Seaside sophomore D.J. Koch had 2 hits, including a run-scoring double, to help the Gulls post the win at Naselle in a non league softball game. Seaside gave up 3 runs on 4 errors in the first inning, but the Gulls regrouped and scored 5 runs in the third and 7 over the final four innings for the win.

Kate Ayres picked up the victory on the mound, allowing 6 hits with 11 strikeouts, 1 walk and 4 hit batters.

Naselle's Marijane Mobley took the loss for the Comets, giving up 6 hits. The Comets also had 6 errors. Charlene Anderson led the Comets with 3 base hits.
