NASELLE - The Naselle Comets scored more points in one game than they had scored totally in three previous games, but they still lost the game when they couldn't stop the South Bend powerhouse offense. NHS finished on the short end of a 42-21 score against the South Bend Indians last Friday evening.

The game, played on Naselle's Rueben Penttila Field, saw the Comets season record drop to 0-4, 0-2 in the Cen-Pac League. The upstart Indians are riding a 4-0 season record, 2-0 in league.

Sean Houghton scored all three of the Naselle touchdowns and quarterback Robin Andrea was on the throwing end of two of the scores. Andrea connected with Houghton on a 56 yard scoring pass in the first period. Houghton went 65 yards on a reverse for a score in the third quarter and he added a TD in the fourth period on a 31 yard pass from Andrea.

The Indians rocked NHS with 26 first quarter points. Their four touchdowns more than countered the Andrea/Houghton connection which produced Naselle's initial score on a 65 yard pass/run.

Naselle assistant coach Jeff Eaton said, "We threw some interceptions early and an end zone interception stopped us. South Bend is a good quick team and it snowballed from there."

South Bend "sealed the deal" by adding two more touchdowns in the second quarter to go in at the half leading 39-7.

The Comets didn't fold up their tent, however, as they added two second half scores to make the score more interesting. Houghton, running a reverse to near perfection, scrambled 65 yards in the third period. The Andrea to Houghton connection came though again, with a fourth quarter 31 yard TD to bring the final score to a more respectable 42-21 as the Indians only added a field goal in the second half.

Naselle gained a total of 235 yards with 134 yards coming on the ground and 101 yards through the air. Defensively, Houghton and Aoy Marion each had 7 tackles. Justin Clark had a fumble recovery.

The Comets travel to Morton for a league game this Friday. NHS still has 27 players on their roster but they were missing five players Friday night. Eaton said that he is hopeful that everyone will be available for the Morton game.
