NASELLE - The Naselle Comettes basketball team started working out under the direction of coaches Rob Dalton and Tim Wirkkala last week.

Dalton said, "So far turnout has been good. We have 16 girls out for practice with a few other girls still thinking about it. Who knows? We started practicing on Monday and I have been very happy with the progress of our new girls. We have a good core group returning." This group includes Nora Darcher (MVP), Fritha Davern- (1st team), Lucy Rubio (honorable mention), Tiffany Pauly (honorable mention, but is injured right now), Abbie Smith (point guard), Dawn Herman, Katie Klinger and Toni Abbott.

The girls that came out this year include juniors Nicole Matthews and Jackie Stanley, sophmores Rebecca Johnson, Kelli Revis, Annie Herrold and Jamie Hines, as well as freshmen Chelsea Clark, Brittany Pellervo and Megan Kato.

"I have had a couple other girls that have been sick or haven't got all their paperwork in yet, so we should have a few more," said Dalton.

The Comettes are schedule to open their season in a jamboree at Warrenton on Monday, December 2, followed by a non-league home game with Cathlamet on Thursday, Dec. 4, and a league game at Northwest Christian in Olympia on Thursday, Dec. 5.
