NASELLE - Nora Darcher, the Pacific League's MVP a year ago, led the Naselle Comettes to an easy league win over the Taholah Chitwins with a standout all-around performance Friday the 13th in Naselle. Darcher scored 21 points, had a career-best 11 rebounds and added five assists and six steals in leading the Comettes to their 71-39 win. The Comettes are now 4-0 overall, and 3-0 in league games.

Darcher wasn't alone in her efforts as Lucy Rubio had 19 points, eight rebounds and eight steals. Fritha Davern gave the Comettes three players in double figures with 14 points. Abbie Smith finished with nine points.

NHS jumped out to an early lead and led 47-15 by the intermission. The Comettes defense held the Chitwins to single-digit scoring in three of the four quarters as the Comettes were credited with 28 steals.

"We were in control most of the way," said assistant coach Tim Wirkkala. "We had a chance to give our younger players lots of playing time and to work on different things and the development of those players."

Some of those younger players divided their playing time between the varsity game and the JV game against the North River varsity. The young Comettes won that game in overtime 35-29 after being tied at 26 after four quarters. It was the Naselle JVs first win of the season.

Wirkkala said, "Jamie Hines led us with 14 points and she spent some time playing point guard, which was a new position for her. Annie Herrold controlled the boards for us and Kelli Revis played well."

The Comettes played a non-league game at Cathlamet on Monday and they travel to Matlock to take on the Mary M. Knight Owls in a league game this Saturday, Dec. 21. The Comettes are then off until Dec. 30 when they travel to Pe Ell for their last non-league game of the season.
