NASELLE — Jake Condon won the pole vault and Katie Green zipped to a win in the 1,600-meter run for the Comets in a four-team track meet at Reuben Penttila Field March 28. Condon cleared a season’s best 11-feet to win handily and Green ran the metric equivalent of the mile in 5:56.24 to win by 29 minutes.

Naselle boys’ team edged Taholah 33 to 28 to finish third and the Comets’ girls were also third as Northwest Christian won both team divisions.

“Clearing 11 feet is my best vault of the year. Now I want to go over 11-6 and eventually 12 feet and go up from there. I know Valley has two good pole vaulters, but I hope to be one of the top five at district and go to state,” said Condon. “I want to do well in the 100, javelin and hopefully talk a couple of other guys into having a 4x100 relay team.”

Dustin Eaton placed third in the 100-meter dash in 12:15 and Condon was fourth in 12.34. Eaton placed fifth in the 200 in 25.57 and Kyler Wulf finished second in the pole vault by clearing 9-feet-6. Keith Reitz placed fifth in the 400 in 1:15:39 and he was eighth in the 1,600.

Justin Martinez finished fourth in the 300-meter low hurdles in 48.55 and Dakota Phillips was fifth in 50:36, both personal bests for them in the event. Martinez was eighth in the 200. Chad Andring placed second in both the shot put (38-feet-8) and the discus (97-feet). Eaton was fourth in the shot put (36-feet-3) and Phillips was fifth in the discus with a toss of 89-feet-8.

Jake Clark was 15th in the shot put and 16th in the discus. Trevan Stanturf placed 17th in the discus and Allyn Bauer and Cody Kirkman also competed in both events. Andring finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 128-feet-5 as he had personal bests in the shot put, discus and javelin for the Comets. Eaton was sixth in the javelin (118-feet-3) and Phillips, Condon, Stanturf, Clark, Kirkman and Bauer also competed in the event.

Green came in fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:43.07. Christina Carter was seventh in the shot put (23-feet-1), seventh in the discus (59-feet-5) and 12th in the javelin (42-feet-3). Jordan Badger placed fifth in the discus with a twirl of 62-feet-7 and she was 10th in the javelin (57-feet-4).
