NASELLE - The Comets took Northwest Christian to the woodshed for an old-fashioned whipping Saturday as they out-quicked, out-shot, and out-rebounded the Navigators in a 75-55 victory at Lyle Patterson Gymnasium. In the process the Comets captured a share of first place in the Pacific 2B League after Valley had knocked off South Bend a night earlier 62-48.

Manny Lopez controlled the paint in a manner not seen in Naselle since Bruce Anderson played nearly 30 years ago as venerable former coach Lyle Patterson and his wife Elaine confirmed. Lopez scored 18 points and swept the glass clean with 17 rebounds in three periods to notch his record 15th double-double of the year in 17 contests.
