Fish & Feathers: Port of Ilwaco issues

Winter storms can prove to be extremely perilous for boats moored in harbors as well as those vessels venturing to sea. Mary De Long, finance manager at Port of Ilwaco reports that several boats moored at Port docks have sunk during the past week. One went down on Christmas Day, the second sank due to weather on New Year's Day and previous to that, a dredge in the harbor broke loose and destroyed a section of an adjoining dock. Luckily, no boats were in the immediate vicinity.

Recent winter storms with low barometric readings, strong southerly winds and large volumes of rainfall have combined to produce some extremely high tides and hazardous conditions within the harbor.
