ILWACO — “Tayler Odneal did an outstanding job in avenging a loss to a tough opponent and Raven Rogers, Adam Hernandez and Beau Morrow all pinned their opponents,” coach Kevin McNulty said after his Fishermen team dropped a 44-28 Trico League decision to the league champion Rockets in Ilwaco Tuesday, Jan. 25.

“All of our kids competed well against a quality team in Castle Rock.” Rogers pinned Kayla Guliford at the 1:31 mark. The Rockets and Fishermen both sent girls to the mats at the 130 weight class. Tom Odneal then defeated Tony Hamilton 10-3 at 135 pounds for Ilwaco.

Tayler Odneal pinned Logan Raney at the 1:08 mark of his 160-pound bout, Hernandez pinned Dale Atchky in 1:19 in their 215-pound tussle, and Morrow downed Colton Dow in spectacular fashion in 29 seconds of the 285-pound match.

Hunter Stockfleth lost to John Mars 11-1, Corbin Sutherland dropped a 7-4 decision to Robby Simpson that was close from start to finish, and Josh Berteaux was pinned by Kris Erdlebrook in 2:37. Josh Letteer beat Ben Ahlin by fall in 3:10, as did Rocket Levi Godinho over Matt Wood in 4:59. Owen Sutherland was decisioned 11-1 and Elliot Marcus dropped a hard-fought 8-4 match to Colbie Oster. The Rockets also were awarded forfeits at 103 and 171 pounds.

In junior varsity matches Ben Lopez pinned Kyle Early in 5:23, Keishi Thompson won an 18-3 technical fall over Clayton Crane, and Kento Thompson pinned Hunter Whitten in 3:37. Marcos Merino was pinned by Chase Lock and Early pinned Deforest Blume.

Ahlin finished first in his Shark Bait bracket at the Pacific Rim Tournament in Seaside instead of second as was reported last week. The Rockets finish with a 7-0 dual record in the Trico and Ilwaco completes their dual league season with a 3-4 mark.
