DUPONT – Four Ilwaco Fishermen made the cut at the state 1A golf tournament and Ross Kukula is within one stroke of the lead after the first 18 holes played on the Home Course in Dupont May 22. The Fishermen are clearly in the driver’s seat to repeat as state champions.

Kukula carded a 75. Anthony Yoder is in seventh place after firing an impressive round of 78. Clark Wilson is in 11th place with an 80 and Ryan Tapio made the cut and is in 15th with a score of 81. Kenneth Sheldon shot an 86, missing the cut by only four strokes.

Charles Wright Academy has two golfers who made the cut and they are in 15th and 20th place. Under the WIAA scoring system Ilwaco has 131.5 points after Day 1. Marina Sonntag shot a 125 in the girls’ state tournament and missed the cut, also. Elma’s Alexis Keating is in first place and her sister Lauryn is in second and the two may win the state points title if they finish in that order.

Tapio will tee it up at 9:54 a.m., Wilson will go at 10:12, and Yoder’s tee time is 10:21. Kukula will be with the leader, Rylee Iacolucci from CleElum and Ryder Lewis from Omak and they will tee it up at 10:39.
