NEAH-KAH-NIE - Naselle's Katie Green was running in sixth place for Naselle at the one-third mark of the Big Foot cross country meet on a hilly course near Neah-Kah-Nie Oct. 11. "All of a sudden Katie came out of the very hilly trail in third and then caught and passed the girl who was in second place with about 400 meters to go. She lost to a very talented girl from Eastside Christian in Oregon," Coach Scott Smith said of his exceptional sophomore competitor.
"It was a very challenging course with a monster' hill, which is why I think they call the meet the Big Foot Challenge," Smith related.
Olivia Zimmerman was 11th and earned a "Big Foot" T-shirt for her efforts in conquering the course. Katelyn Magie also ran well according to Smith in coming in 14th. "The course was wet, very soggy and extremely challenging, but the day was warm and with only a sprinkle of rain," he said.
"Austin Smith ran hard and did very well in making it over the hill twice in the varsity race," Smith said. In the middle school race Isabel Zimmerman was an impressive second place for the girls. "She is running very strong right now," Smith praised. Emily Bjornsgard came in 11th and Shannon Christie was 20th in the middle school competition.
