ILWACO - The Ilwaco Fishermen are poised to take on Trico League 2A competition after finishing second in their own Christmas Tournament and earning a 5-3 non-league record. The Fishermen have feasted on home cooking, going 4-1, however coach Matt Blair would like to improve upon their 1-2 road mark.

Ilwaco has out-rebounded their opponents 34 to 32, while often being the smaller of the two teams. Their scrappy style of play has led to causing 17 turnovers per contest, while losing the ball 14 times, and the Fishermen's quickness has led to gaining 42 percent of offensive rebound opportunities.

Blair would like to improve on the 39 percent field goal shooting and 56 percent foul shot ratio during the League season. The opponents have outscored Ilwaco's bench 13-8 in the first eight games.

Top scorers for Ilwaco have been Kyle Kaino (15 points), Andy Hudkins (11), Ryan Cadwell (11), David Thorne (7), Adam Ellsworth (5), Tony Crete (3), Chris Rogers (3), and tourney hero, Rocky Mirelez (3).

Hudkins has corralled the most rebounds, seven, and dished out the most assists, five, per game. Cadwell and Kaino follow in rebounding and Kaino and Thorne have the next highest totals in assists. Kaino leads in steals with 21, followed by Cadwell and Thorne with 19 swipes apiece, and Kaino has blocked the most shots.

The Fishermen hosted perennial Trico powerhouse, LaCenter, Monday and will make the long trek to Stevenson Friday. Their initial League home contest will be Jan. 17 with White Salmon on the menu.
