WOODLAND - Ilwaco girls nabbed three of the top six places and the boys garnered six of the first nine places in a five-school cross country meet at Woodland Wednesday.
Nate Appel won the race in a time of 16:18, Ed Guelfi finished third in 17:02, and Jordan Williams crossed the finish line in 5th in a time of 17:25. Derek Duffy was hot on his heels with a 17:40, good for 6th, Jon Fagerlund completed the course in 18:11 to earn 8th place, and Garrett Binion ran an 18:26 time and placed 9th.
The team scores for the boys was Ilwaco a miniscule 23, Forks 45, Kalama 105, and Naselle 142. Despite the great individual efforts, the girls only had four runners finish the race, so were not able to compete in the team results. Forks won the ladies half of the meet with 35 points.
Karla Parsons ran well, according to Williams, to get fourth place in a time of 22:04. Kari Knutzen also received praise from the coach as she was 5th in 22:09. Erin Knick ran a 22:26 time for the three mile course and earned 6th and Elaina Erola came in 12th with a 25:16 effort.
Michelle Wroble was forced to call it a season and Amber Hall and Meredith Jensen also were hobbled by leg injuries, according to coach Joe Williams.
