ILWACO — The Ilwaco girls beat Toledo 48-21 Wednesday, Dec. 30, pulling away after a very slow start to the game.

The score was just 4-4 after one quarter, as the Lady Fishermen stifled Toledo and hit the offensive glass hard but missed from inside and out. Makenzie Kaech scored six of their twelve in the second quarter for a 16-10 lead at the half.

In the third period Madeline Jacobson helped Ilwaco expand its lead. She was double-teamed inside and found Emily McMillan for a jumper to start the scoring in the period, and scored on an inbounds pass to make it 22-14. She kept a possession alive with an offensive rebound, leading to a three-pointer by Hannah Ellsworth, then scored on a putback for a 27-14 lead. She found Ellsworth off yet another offensive rebound for a 29-14 lead after three.

Kaech scored eight of her 14 in the fourth and had four steals. Ellsworth had all 10 of her points in the second half and had six steals. Jacobson had ten points and eight rebounds, while Eliza Bannister had five assists and only two turnovers.
