PULLMAN - Former Peninsula resident Jason Hickman stepped in as public address announcer at the Washington State University vs. UCLA football game in Pullman three Saturdays ago.

Hickman, who earned a Masters Degree in Athletic Administration, has been working for WSU in the media-relations office.

"I deal mostly with the football team," Hickman related. "Event-ually I would like to move from Pullman and become an athletic director for a Division I university."

Hickman had done public address announcing at volleyball and basketball games for WSU. When the regular announcer, Pullman Mayor Glenn Johnson, went down with an emergency appendectomy the Friday before the big game, he filled the booth with confidence.

"It was no big deal, really," Hickman said. "It's the kind of work I like to do."

Hickman's father Russ was IHS girls basketball coach and a popular teacher in the 1990s.
