WARRENTON - The Lady Fishermen defeated Warrenton 19-8 and throttled Naselle 23-0 in a pair of 10-minute quarters at the Warrenton Basketball Jamboree Monday.
"We got all of the kids in and our press and traps and defense worked very well," coach Glen Padgett said of the two lopsided victories.
Ashley Fauver hit several three-point shots outside and Robyn Unruh handled the ball effectively, passed and stole the basketball, and made three or four baskets according to Padgett. Michelle Wroble also shot well from outside.
Ariel Barker scored on a couple of put-back baskets and Ashley Kitzman did a very good job of scoring and rebounding underneath according to the coach. He added, "Holly Hocking shot the ball well and played good defensively and Nicole Adams hustled and scored also."
Padgett said, "Freshman Anna Kitzman played great and fits right in the mix. Ali Brooks also got some playing time and got the feel of playing for the varsity." He concluded by saying, "The scoring was pretty well spread around in the jamboree. We missed 21 shots during the Naselle game or it could have been 50-0, but we played everybody against them."
The Ilwaco junior varsity defeated Warrenton 24-23 in overtime when Bonnie Perez hit a "do-or-die" shot at the end of the mini-contest, according to Padgett.
The Lady Fishermen host a tall Winlock team Friday at Aase Gym in their opening contest of the season, with JV action beginning at 5:45 p.m. and the varsity game to follow.
