ILWACO - Coach Tom Hornbuckle released the records of Ilwaco High School wrestlers this week and his top four troops had very successful seasons.
Derek Duffy in the 130 pound classification finished his senior season with a glossy 21-10 record for a 68 percent success rate. Jerry Matzen, also a senior, was a spectacular 22-9 on the year and won 71 percent of his bouts at 135.
Rounding out the seniors on the IHS team was Jake Pedersen at 189.Jake ended his season at a gaudy 23-11, winning 68 percent of his matches. Sophomore Bobby Crislip in the 275 classification was a brilliant 22-8 in his bouts, being victorious 73 percent of the time.
"Bobby will be our returning junior next season, and we don't anticipate any seniors on the team at this time," Hornbuckle said.
He had praise for freshmen Eddie Smith at 171 and David Casper at 140, saying they made improvement and should be competitive wrestlers next season.
"We have six junior high guys who have said they want to wrestle next season," the coach added."We will be young, but our numbers could be a bit higher than this year."
