Ilwaco boys and girls dominate Onalaska meet

ONALASKA - The Ilwaco boys and girsl cross country teams dominated a meet at Onalaska Thursday, the guys defeating seven teams and the ladies finishing in front of four.

Derek Duffy paced the squads with his third consecutive first place finish. Duffy ran the 3.1 mile course in the outstanding time of 18:02 to beat 60 runners in the first meet for the Fishermen in two weeks. John Hayes finished third with a brilliant time of 18:23 and Jordan Williams, finishing fourth in the field with a time of 18:29.

Garret Binion claimed seventh and Scott Fagerland came in eighth to round out Ilwaco scoring. The duo ran the course in 18:40 and 18:44 respectively. Shaun Peterson was 14th in 19:52 and Dylan Wirkkala was just behind him with a time of 19:55. Mike Huitt ran 20:53 and placed 27th, while Luke Jensen continued to improve, finishing 45th in a time of 22:54.

Erin Knick paced the winning Lady Fishermen team by finishing seventh in 23:49. Jillian Guelfi was close behind, grabbing ninth place in a time of 24:12. Kari Knutzen continued to be steady, finishing 10th in 24:55, and Meredith Jensen came home in 12th with a time of 25:35. Lynsey Burns' time of 27:20 was good for 17th, and Elaina Erola finished 18th among the 30 lady runners in a time of 27:32.

Felecia Faggard continued to amaze at the junior high level, winning her fourth race this season and remaining undefeated her two years of competing. She traversed the 1.6 mile course in 12:10 and easily defeated the 12 runners in the meet. Kat Oja finished third (12:40), Tabitha Kruse fifth (12:51), and Desmin Wirkkala claimed sixth (13:11). Dawnielle Childers was seventh, Monica Milner eighth, Vicki Stark ninth, and Ariel Weir 12th in the race.

Matt Kaino (12:05) placed third for the junior high boys, Stephen Bergland was fourth, Robert Gibbons sixth, and Ricky Alm finished seventh among 10 boy runners.
