Daniel Whiting and Tristan Trudell took second and third in a field of 76 runners at the Bigfoot Invitational in Twin Rock Friends Camp in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Whiting and Trudell led Ilwaco’s boys team to a first-place finish.

In the girls’ race, Ilwaco, the only school with three runners in the Top 10, edged Neah-Kah-Nie and Warrenton. Thirteen teams attended the event, which had a field of 78 boys and 46 girls.

Jordan White of Neah-Kah-Nie won the girls’ race by 49 seconds at 24:15.30. Estella Sheldon was the top Ilwaco finisher in the girls’ race with a sixth-place 27:18.35, followed .23 later by teammate Carli Kemmer. Karissa Haderman of Neah-Kah-Nie came in eighth at 27:21.36.

Ilwaco’s Alex Carper followed .35 later. Having three runners in the sixth-through-ninth spots helped Ilwaco edge Neah-Kah-Nie in the points 52 to 67.

Neah-Kah-Nie’s Dinah Schultz came in 15th at 29:16. But Ilwaco’s Emma Brundage (29:29.66) and Kaytlenn Whelden (30:32.52) were 17th and 18th, both coming in ahead of Neah’s fourth-place runner. Nisa Mendoza finished in 31:18.12, and Daniela Mendez came in at 34:08.13.

In the boys’ race, Ilwaco got a much more lopsided win, with 29 points to 74 each for Rainier and Warrenton, who tied for second. Whiting finished in 20:47.89, 42 seconds behind Robert Pina-Morton of Knappa, which did not have enough runners for a team score. Whiting was almost a minute ahead of Trudell, who took third in the field of 78 runners at 21:43.59.

Colton McNabb had the third Top 10 finish of his career, and his first in a race of this size, taking ninth at 23:15.12. Teammate Ghannon Whelden was right behind him at 23:21.57. Freshman Brady Rasmussen had one of his strongest races, taking 14th at 24:23.1. Nate Hopkins was next at 24:35.75.

Logan Simonson (24:45.38), Griffen Cutting (26:01.54), Adrienn Gomez-Sanchez (26:19.78), Michael Jensen, (26:56.11) Jose Luis Mendez-Hernandez (29:21.96), Joey Grane (29:45.72) all competed for Ilwaco.
