WESTPORT, Wash. - Katie Holmes won the 100- and 200-meter sprints and Garrett Binion was victorious in the 800 to pace the IHS squads to fourth- and fifth-place finishes respectively in the 8-team Ocosta Track Invitational March 20.
Holmes ran the 100 meters in 13-flat and won the 200-meter race going away with a winning time of 27.4.Binion dominated in the 800 distance, turning in a victorious time of 2:05.
The Lady Fishermen 4x100 relay team of Holmes, Laura Schott, Tatiana Bullock and Erin Knick turned in the outstanding early-season time of 54.6, but was edged by Rochester.The 4x400 relay squad of Michelle Wroble, Katie Freese, Schott and Meredith Jensen finished second to North Beach with a time of 4:53.9.
Andrea Becken placed second in the discus, launching the disc 79-feet-10.She also claimed third in the shot with a put of 25-feet-11. Wroble raced to third in the 800 in 3:01 and fourth in the 1600 in 6:36.Freese long-jumped 14-feet-1 to also finish in fourth place.
Jensen earned a sixth place in the 1600, in a time of 6:46 and Wroble tossed the javelin 62-feet-8 to also place sixth in that event.
For the boys team, John Hayes came in second place in the 3200 in a time of 11:07.7 and the 1600 relay team of Jordan Williams, Binion, Shaun Peterson and Dylan Wirkkala also finished second, behind South Bend with an excellent time of 3:50.7.
Hayes was third in the 1600, turning in a 4:58.2 time, and Williams claimed third in the 400 meter run in 56-flat.Joe Goelz heaved the javelin 117-feet-5 for fourth spot.Wirkkala finished sixth in the 1600 in 5:19 and Peterson was sixth as well in the 800 with a time of 2:25.8.
Ilwaco was third in the co-ed 800-meter relay with a time of 1:45.5. Williams and Binion for the guys and Holmes and Knick for the gals carried the baton for Ilwaco.
South Bend won the girls' side of the meet with 95 points and North Beach and South Bend finished ahead of the Lady Fishermen's 73 points in second and third.The Indians also won the boys' side of the meet with an impressive 146 points.Ilwaco had 55 to finish in fifth behind Rochester, Northwest Christian and North Beach.
