Ilwaco softball finishes summer 7-1-1 with league title

LONG BEACH - "Our team hit the ball well and ran the bases with experience and confidence," coach Kevin Ward said of the Ilwaco middle school softball team, as they finished with a 7-1-1 record for the season. "We took advantage of most every opportunity to score a lot of runs and defensively we were very solid."

Ilwaco outscored their opponents 100-54, out-hit them 65-19 and had a batting average of .448 to their foes' .153 according to statistics compiled by the team. Coach Ward said, "Pitching was very strong for us this season as Sydney Ward was hands down the best pitcher in our league." The squad voted catcher Alexa Wirkkala as MVP, Kady Kirby and Elleigh Kaino as Most Inspirational and Marina Sonntag and Olivia Bonney as Most Improved players.

Other players on the team were Vallori Crowston, Braidy Barrett, Justina Cornell, Logan Manecke, Hailee Henington, Brooke Weir, Carley Kitzman, and Samantha Wright.
