ILWACO - The Ilwaco eighth-graders swept Astoria, Warrenton, and Seaside, split with Clatskanie, and dropped two close games against Knappa in completing a successful 7-3 season, according to coach Ned Bittner.

"These girls should do very well in their high school careers," he said.

Anna Kitzman was the team's most valuable player as she played very well on offense and defense and brought an excellent knowledge of the game to her efforts as floor leader, according to Bittner.

Allison Brooks was a good defender and rebounder in the post and Chelsea Ostgaard handled the point guard position and defending the opponent's best guard very well, according to Bittner. Amy Leback was also a solid defender inside and rebounded well, said the coach.

Tara Hankins contributed as a forward and improved her overall game, while Bonnie Perez was among the best athletes on the team, also playing the forward position according to Bittner. Kyleigh Friend rounded out the squad, playing guard or forward and passing and defending well.

The "B" team was able to obtain valuable playing experience throughout the campaign. Sara Morris played post, Madeline Dickerson was point guard, and wings for the team included Flo Galvan, Erin Shaw, Samantha Engel, Amanda Spencer and Stehpanie Ryan.
