ILWACO — Ilwaco wrestlers had strong performances at tournaments at Kittitas and Raymond on Jan. 23.

At Kittitas the Fishermen boys finished in third place out of 18 teams.

Alec Bell was first place in his weight class, and Daylin Kemmer and Joe and Riki Thompson each placed second. DeAntay Kellogg took fourth. At Raymond Kasey Bageant, Hilda Mondragon and freshman Aliscia Bravo each won first place in the girl’s tournament. Besides taking first in her own weight class, Bravo represented Ilwaco in the class above her and took second.

Ilwaco sent a mixture of varsity and junior varsity wrestlers to the boys tournament in Raymond and took fifth place out of 11 teams.

Brandon McMullen took second place at Raymond, Ghannon Whelden and Chris Wood each placed third, and Royce Murry, Landin Frank and Marcello Lazaro each placed fourth.

Earlier in the week, Ilwaco participated in mix-and-match events. On Jan. 20 Ilwaco wrestlers finished 15-6 at Napavine, and the Fishermen junior varsity went 21-8 in Astoria on Jan. 19.
