ILWACO — It like a tent city or a busy campground on the Fourth of July, but the campout on the Ilwaco High School football practice field was all part of an 18-team wrestling camp and part of the Fishermen’s largest fundraiser of the year.

Over 200 wrestlers competed in dual meets among the various schools on the mats at Carl Aase Gymnasium and elsewhere at the Black Lake Campus. Days began with breakfast at 7 a.m. and wrestling starting at 8 a.m. and proceeding the rest of the day. Many volunteers helped keep the wrestlers and coaches fed.

The Fishermen had up to 16 matches each against all levels of competition as they gained even more valuable experience for next season. The team recently returned from another wrestling camp that was intertwined with white-water rafting down the Deschutes River near Maupin, Ore.
