ILWACO — Ilwaco beat South Bend 70-26 Thursday, Dec. 6.

The Fishermen led just 10-6 after a quarter against the winless Indians (0-3 at week’s end). But Alex Kaino sparked a 9-0 run to start the second quarter, hitting a three-pointer, swiping a steal, and scoring on a put-back.

The Fishermen led 31-15 by halftime, then opened the third period on a 21-0 run. Reese Tynkila overpowered South Bend in the post during that stretch, while Kaino thrived on the break.

Junior Blake Kukula, getting some varsity minutes as a varsity-JV “swing player,” came in in the fourth quarter and repeatedly got open behind the three-point arc, where he hit two of four attempts.
