WHITE SALMON — The Fishermen made the long trip to face a tough 1A opponent, the Columbia-White Salmon Bruins, and came away with a 61-0 loss Friday, Sept. 13. The Bruins went ahead 33-0 in the first quarter on their way to the blowout win.
Official comment was not immediately forthcoming from the IHS coach.
However, the Vancouver Columbian reported: “The host Bruins scored early and often in this non-league matchup with Ilwaco.”
Capitalizing on a suffocating defense, Columbia held Ilwaco to 26 total yards while forcing three fumbles. The Bruins racked up 300 yards rushing and 72 yards passing in the first half to take a 47-0 lead.
Columbia’s Austin Charters finished with four carries for 105 yards, including a 60-yard scoring run, to lead the Bruins’ 438 yard rushing total. Charters also passed for 72 yards to give the Bruins a 510-26 total yards advantage over Ilwaco.
