HOOD CANAL - Ilwaco's Jack Whealdon continued to shine on the links this summer as he finished third in the boys 16-17 division of the Frank Rodia Northwest Invitiational golf tournament. Jack was not alone when the hardware was presented, however as Ryan Kukula was seventh and Patrick Whealdon 11th in the boys 14-15 division and Ross Kukula also nailed down a seventh place finish in the boys 12-13 age group.
Whealdon shot 75 and 73 for a 36-hole total of 148. He was a dozen strokes off the pace of Will Holdridge of Bellingham for medalist honors. Ryan Kukula carded rounds of 79 and 77 for a 156 score and Patrick Whealdon shot 80 and 81 for a 161 score. Ross Kukula shot 90 the first day, but came back with an 83 for a total of 173 on his golf card at the Alderbook Golf and Yacht Club in Hood Canal.
The Whealdon's will travel to Burley, Idaho next week for the Pacific Northwest Golf Association boys' amateur tournament. The event will feature two days of qualifying rounds and then the top 32 finishers will be paired in match play to determine a champion.
Ilwaco golf coach, Dan Whealdon, wants to remind high school golfers that the first practice will be August 27 and not August 20 as previously announced. The final Ilwaco boys' golf schedule should be finalized sometime next week.
