SURFSIDE - The Lady Wildcats had three girls shoot 51 or less at Surfside Wednesday as LaCenter downed Ilwaco 279-321 in a Trico League match. McKenzie Cross for the visitors was three over par on the last five holes as she earned medalist honors with a 47 and the Hodge twins, Melanie and Rachel, fired rounds of 50 and 51 to lead the winners.
For Ilwaco Amanda Schisler "continues to improve her game each week," according to coach Bob Enos, as she carded a round of 56. Jessica Ziemer finished with a 63, Jenna Lee and Brooke Weir came in with rounds of 67 and Marina Sonntag finished with a 68.
Rounding out LaCenter's scoring was Ali Chord with a 63, Keely Hay with a 68, and Heather Haas shot a 74. Ilwaco's next match will be the District IV tournament May 10 and 11 at Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis. District will consist of 18-hole rounds each day, with the top five individuals qualifying for state. LaCenter, Montesano, Rochester, and Ilwaco will be competing at district. The state 1A golf tournament will be held May 25 and 26 at Columbia Point Golf Club in Richland.
Enos said, "Now we need to prepare to compete for the entire 18 holes each day at district. We need to focus on the mental aspects of the game and not let a bad shot affect the next short or a bad hole carry over to the next hole. If we can get the six inches between our ears prepared, we will do fine."
