ILWACO - "They are a seasoned team that has played well together for a long time," Coach Marie Green summed up after her Ilwaco volleyball team fell convincingly to Warrenton 25-10, 25-6 and 25-16 at Carl Aase Gymnasium Saturday afternoon in non-league play. "We are still trying to meld together, get used to our rotations, and get to the places we need to be to attack."
One move Green made was to bring Brittnee Pattison up from the junior varsity. "We want to take advantage of Brittnee's powerful serves and hitting and she loves to get on the floor for balls and she gives us a lot of energy." Pattison had a service ace and a kill against the Warriors.
Marin McDonnell played a "solid" game according to Green, contributing four aces and four kills. Sydney Ward had a kill and four assists at the setter position and Alexa Wirkkala added two aces and two kills.
"We don't play until next Saturday so we will work on team drills, try to gain confidence and figure where we want to go and how we can get there as individuals and as a team. Toward the end of the week we will scrimmage against the coaches to be ready for our tournament in Raymond."
Warrenton is now 6-1 and Ilwaco drops to 0-4. The JV team also lost to the Warriors, but Coach Keri Kostur had praise for the digs and motivation provided by McKenzie Stockfleth as libero.
