ILWACO - The Lady Fishermen piled on 12 runs in the first inning and smoked White Salmon 16-1 in a mercy-rule shortened three-inning Trico League game at Long Beach Thursday. Sydney Ward was the winning pitcher over the Lady Bruins for the third time in three days as she struck out four and walked but two in pitching a two-hitter.

Ward also led Ilwaco's hit parade with two solid singles. Aimee Banuet, Kady Kirby, and Logan Manecke each belted base hits and Ashley Tapio and Alexa Wirkkala both doubled. The Lady Fishermen took advantage of 11 walks and a hit batsman.

Wirkkala made a fine catch of a line drive and later started a double play at shortstop and Manecke caught well. Coach Rick Bishop said, "You girls did a nice job tonight. We took care of business against a team at the bottom of the league and now we have to get ready for the next three weeks when we play the top teams."

Ilwaco improves to 4-1 in the Trico and 6-2 overall, while the Lady Bruins fall to 0-6 in league play.
