ILWACO — The Lady Fishermen kept North Beach scoreless until three minutes into the second quarter of a 64-28 win on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Ebby McMullen dominated the first half with 14 points, three assists and three steals. She and Eliza Bannister quickly ignited Ilwaco’s fast break game. McMullen got a quick steal and assist, then another steal and layup for a 4-0 lead. Bannister then quickly ripped away two steals and scored six of Ilwaco’s next eight points. McMullen then intercepted a pass, fired an outlet pass to Bannister, who found Makenzie Kaech for a 14-0 lead five minutes into the game.
North Beach finally scored with 4:43 remaining in the half to make it 24-2, but Ilwaco continued to pile on offensively. Kaech drove coast-to-coast for a layup late in the half. In the final seconds of the half, McMullen worked her way open, got a sideline inbound pass from Bannister, and swished a three at the buzzer to make it 38-8 at the half.
Ilwaco opened the second half on a 12-2 run, triggering a running clock with 5:13 in the third quarter. The Fishermen found playing time for 10 players. McMullen finished with 18 points, four assists and four steals. Kaech added 18 points, three assists, three steals and four blocks. Madeline Jacobson added 14 points and six blocks. Bannister had four assists and four steals.
