RAYMOND - Ilwaco lost all seven games in pool play and then where defeated by King's West in the first round of bracket play at a volleyball tournament in Raymond Saturday. Coach Marie Green had praise for Marin McDonnell and Charlotte Johnson, saying, "Marin played awesome through the tournament and Charlotte hustled and made some big plays for us."
McDonnell had four aces, six digs, five kills and four blocks in pool play and Johnson contributed three aces, three digs, three kills, a block and a team-high seven assists as setter. Sydney Ward added two aces, two digs, two kills and four assists and Alexa Wirkkala led the Lady Fishermen with nine aces, seven digs and a kill and block. Carly Kitzman chipped in three aces, three kills and three blocks to the team's efforts.
Ilwaco dropped games to Quinault 25-16, Life Christian 25-9, Valley 25-7, Tacoma Baptist 21-15 due to time limit, 25-21 to host Raymond, 25-18 to Northwest Christian, and 25-19 to King's West. They were defeated by King's West 25-11 and 25-11 in bracket play.
Green said, "We are working on some new rotations and will use them in our upcoming matches next week." The Lady Fishermen are 0-4 in match play and will return to action Monday when they host Knappa after a nine day layoff.
