WARRENTON The Lady Warriors used a 25-3 second period to catapult them to a lopsided 56-23 non-league win over Naselle at Warrenton Thursday, Jan. 13. The Comets led 8-7 near the end of the first period, but from then on it was all Warrenton.
We practiced like this all week and we didnt play well in any phase of the game tonight, coach Russ Hickman said. When Warrenton turned up the defensive pressure and we didnt score, we withdrew our intensity. We did not match up well with their athletic perimeter players.
Carley Kitzman led Naselle with seven points, Nicole Tarabochia, Taylor Wasmundt and Kayti Nelson each scored four apiece, and Makenzie Matthews and Haleigh both added a basket. Tarabochia pulled down six rebounds and Wasmundt garnered five. Kitzman and Katie Green both dished out a pair of assists.
Naselle was a miserable 8-52 from the floor for 15 percent and 7-18 from the charity stripe for a meager 38 percent. The Lady Warriors were 24-62 from the field for 39 percent and 7-15 from the line for 47 percent. Both teams turned the basketball over 24 times and both were whistled for 14 fouls in the fray. Warrenton won the rebounding battle 52-37.
Naselle is now 11-3 and Warrenton improves to 8-8 for the year. The Lady Warriors won the junior varsity tilt 50 to 24 despite Greens 15 points in two quarters for the Comets.
