WESTPORT - The Naselle softball team jumped to an early 3-0 advantage over league-leading Ocosta there Thursday, but the Lady Wildcats clawed back for a 13-3 win in six innings to end the Comets' 2009 season. Coach Bert said, "We are playing better at the end of the season and the girls have had a great attitude all year."

Orianne Condon, Shelby Leeland and Nicole Tarabochia each singled in the first frame and each came around to score. Leeland, playing in her final game as a senior, was 2-4 in the contest. Condon was 3-4 at the plate, Nicole Best was 2-3 and Nicole Tarabochia and Haleigh See each slammed singles in the game.

Ironically the opening game of the season was a 13-3 loss to Ocosta for the Comets as well. The Lady Wildcats finish a game ahead of Northwest Christian at 9-1 in the league and Naselle completes their season with a 2-8 Pacific 2B League mark and a 3-12 record for the season.

Amber Wirkkala at second base and Best at third were cited for doing well defensively by Haven. "We will miss Shelby. She played well all year and was a leader for us through a tough season. With everyone else coming back we should continue to improve. We just need to get more playing time and experience," Haven concluded.

Condon, who has only three weeks of pitching experience under her belt walked five and struck out six against the top team in the league. See has shown improvement at catcher according to Haven and Leeland has been steady at first base the past three years.
