NASELLE - Where else but Naselle does the Homecoming Queen receive her crown at halftime of the football game and a couple of hours later that afternoon bag a buck on opening day of hunting season? That is exactly what Nicole Laney accomplished Saturday.

At intermission of the Comets' one-sided 57-6 victory over Seattle Lutheran, Laney, resplendent in her aqua-green dress was crowned queen in front of a packed grandstand. As part of her biography public address announcer Chris Clark had said, "One of Nicole's dreams is to shoot a deer."

Shortly after the game Nicole went hunting near her home with her cousin James Laney, Jamie Gilbert, and Charlie Scalzo. "I didn't go far because I didn't want to get my hair ruined," she stated. "I shot a pickle fork-a spike on one side and a forked horn on the other," the NHS senior explained.

Immediately after shooting the buck, Laney exclaimed, "Yes, I'll have liver and onions. That's the best." Like the lady she is, Laney was able to get home, get her hair and make-up redone, have a photograph snapped of her with her buck and then dance the night away. All in all, it was a perfect ending for a perfect day for Queen Nicole Laney.
