ILWACO - Kip Meinhardt returns to the Fishermen bench as boys' assistant basketball coach after a four year hiatus in which he earned his master's degree. "My goals as a JV coach are to help the players develop the skills and confidence they will need to play at the varsity level and I want to help them have positive memories of their experiences as a basketball player at Ilwaco."

Meinhardt is a history major who has also taught physical education the past 10 years in the Ocean Beach district. His wife Cathy also teaches there. Meinhardt was boys' assistant coach for five years beginning in 1992 and also spent a year as middle school basketball coach.

He will assist Paul Jarrett who he met while playing open gym. Meinhardt was an all-state basketball player in Billings, Mont., and earned a hoops scholarship to Rocky Mountain College even though he says, "Football was my favorite sport in high school." He served four years in the Navy before going back to school to get his teaching degree.
