CENTRALIA - Naselle out-hit Mossyrock 10-8, but the Vikings out-scored the Comets 7-1 in the opening round of the District IV tournament in Centralia Tuesday. Naselle had base knocks in every inning but the sixth, but the Vikings did not walk a batter and committed only two errors in stranding 11 base runners, while scoring three runs of their own in the first frame and four in the fifth.
"We obviously hit the ball well all day, and we got the hitters up in clutch situations that we wanted to be up, but we just didn't come through," Coach Pete Donlon lamented. "We started too many of our rallies with two outs."
Logan Scrabeck led Naselle by going 4-4 at the plate with a stolen base. Chris Walkowiak was 2-4 and Nick Zimmerman was 1-3 with his team's only RBI in the second inning. Austin Burkhalter and Chase Chapman added singles. John Hines pitched five innings, striking out two, allowing eight hits, and hitting four batters, three of which scored.
