NASELLE — The Comets beat the North River Mustangs 55-20 on Jan. 22.
Against North River, a tiny school from a rural area northeast of Raymond, the Comets sought to find action for as many players as possible. They subbed out all five starters about half way through the first quarter. The second unit that came in included some rotation regulars but also featured 5’3” freshman Ian Fontanilla running the point. Shortly afterward, Jacob Eaton entered and hit a three-pointer. The Comets led 19-7 after one.
Naselle outscored the Mustangs 22-3 during the second quarter, during which starters saw extensive action. Travis Pine scored on a pair of three-point plays in traffic at the end of the period, helping the Comets to a 41-10 lead.
Sixteen players entered the game for Naselle, most seeing time in multiple quarters. Eric Lund led the Comets with 11 points, and Hayden Gudmundsen added 10. Jacob Simpson led the Mustangs with 10 points.
NASELLE — Naselle won 53-11 at Twin Valley on Jan. 21. The Comets brought a 1-2-2 press and forced early Wolfpack turnovers to take a 16-4 lead after one quarter. Freshman Ian Fontanilla came in during the second quarter and quickly had an assist, a three-pointer and two made free throws, helping extend the lead to 37-5 by halftime.
Travis Pine led the Comets with 14 points, Ramzi Estes and Donny Edwards scored nine apiece, and Fontanilla and Eric Lund each scored seven.
