WILLAPA VALLEY - Naselle boys cross country team earned fifth place at Valley Thursday on the strength of a pair of sophomore runners who had their best races to date.

Evan Hendrickson crossed the finish line in 10th place with his third consecutive personal record time (19:57), and Keegan McGuire was 22nd in his second straight best (21:16).

The Comets rounded out their scoring with Garrick Bennett getting 37th (24:43), Ryan Nortrup 38th (25:39) and Aoy Marion coming in 40th (26:18).

Spencer Griss ran the course in 26:50 (42nd), Gavin Maxwell came in with a time of 27:44 (44th), and Greg Queener was 45th in the nine-team event at Menlo in 28:33.

Erin Saari was the highest Naselle finisher as the freshman sensation earned fourth place in a time of 25:15 on the same course. Kristiina Chism was the only other Comette competing and she finished 13th in 31:17.

In the junior high race Conor Smith was 9th in 13:22 and Forest Emo 14th in 13:45 for the 1.65-mile course.
