NASELLE - The Comet girls defeated North Beach in a jamboree-style playoff at Raymond Monday, but then lost to Tacoma Baptist in the series of 10-minute mini-games for second place as the three teams had tied for second place in the Pacific 2B League during the season. The Baptists had won the toss to determine seeding in the league standings going into Wednesday's District IV tournament and they will go into district competition as second see, Naselle will be placed in third place, and North Beach will be seeded fourth.

As a result of the tie-breaking jamboree playoff system, Naselle girls will host Cathlamet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Lyle Patterson Gym. If they win, then they will play Friday in Castle Rock at 6:30 p.m. against highly-touted White Pass and a loss will send the Comets to a loser-out contest Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Rochester more than likely against PeEll or North Beach.

The Comet boys, Pacific champions, will await the winner of the South Bend at Mossyrock contest and will play in a game scheduled for Montesano at 8 p.m. February 16. Other girl match-ups will be Northwest Christian at Toutle Lake and Valley at Mossyrock. Napavine is the number one seed from the Central League and Raymond is top dog in the Pacific.

Other boys' pairings in the first round are Northwest Christian hosting Morton, North Beach hosting Napavine, and Ocosta visiting Cathlamet. Undefeated and number one ranked Toutle Lake is seeded first in the Central League, followed by an athletic Adna squad. Tacoma Baptist is seeded second behind Naselle in the 2B Pacific League.
