NASELLE — Instead of the scheduled football game on Friday between the Naselle Comets and the Jewell, Ore., Bluebirds, the Comet players enjoyed an after-practice potluck on the field with their parents and a 2-0 forfeit win.
As reported in last week’s Observer, The Bluebirds suffered several injuries in their game two weeks ago against Twin Valley, causing them to also forfeit their previous game. The game was to have been the Comets first eight-man contest of the season.
“The boys played 7-on-7 for nearly two-and-a-half hours around eating a variety of food,” said coach Jeff Eaton. “The boys had a great time and no one left hungry.”
Eaton thanked the parents who brought food and the players who organized the event, with a special thanks to Jayson Bergeson cooking the burgers and dogs.
The Comets are next scheduled to play a home game against Oakville on Friday. Oakville is 0-2 coming into the game after losing to Taholah and Lake Crescent. The Acorns had a bye in week one.
