COVINGTON — Rainier Christian knocked Naselle’s softball team out of the playoffs with an 8-3 win in Covington on May 17. The Mustangs scored five runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie.
Lily Harman led off the game for Naselle with a double to deep center and quickly stole third and home. Holly Disch hit a two-out double, then scored on Morgan Ridgeway’s hit. In the bottom of the inning, Tayler Ford struck out two straight batters to get out of a second-and-third, one-out jam, and the Comets led 2-0 after one inning.
The Mustangs scored two in the second and one in the third. Meanwhile, Mustangs pitcher Hannah Christian retired eight straight batters until Morgan Ridgeway singled in the fourth. Hannah Saari brought home Ridgeway with a single, tying the game at three.
In the sixth, Rainier rallied with two out and only one on. Savannah Etue singled, and Christian followed with a two-run triple, sparking a five-run inning. Naselle went down in order in the seventh, bringing the season to an end.
Ridgeway and Disch both went 2 for 3 for the Comets. Christian doubled and tripled for Rainier, and Amelia Ahlen doubled twice.
