MENLO — Jackie Steenerson and Kaylin Shrives led the way as the Lady Comets beat Toutle Lake 49-34 Saturday, Dec. 28.

Steenerson scored the Comets’ first points on a pick-and-roll with Peyton Dalton on her way to a six-point first quarter, then got behind the Lady Ducks’ zone to score again for a 19-9 lead early in the second period. She finished with 12 points.

Shrives got a steal, spun in the lane and scored to put the Comets ahead for good at 9-7. She also had six first-quarter points on her way to a 15-point night.

Bella Colombo nailed a pair of second-quarter three-pointers, and the Comets led 31-18 by halftime. Colombo banked in another three in the fourth quarter to make it 46-30 with just 3:35 to go.

The win lifted Naselle to 1-1 against a pair of 2B Central teams at the Jack Q. Pearson Christmas tournament at Willapa Valley. Naselle is 4-4 overall. Toutle Lake fell to 3-6.

Naselle will play Mount Vernon Christian at Mount Vernon at Friday, Jan. 3 at 5:30 p.m., and plays Lummi Nation, also at Mount Vernon, Saturday at noon.
