New tennis pro joins Lighthouse resort

Roman Sada is the new tennis pro at the Lighthouse Resort in Long Beach.

LONG BEACH — The Lighthouse Oceanfront Resort has a new tennis pro for teaching at its indoor courts. Roman Sada, a Czech native who had coached tennis in various capacities in Florida since 2001, took over at the resort last month.

Sada played tennis professionally in the Czech Republic and Germany before a shoulder injury derailed his career. Sada realized one could make a living teaching tennis in the U.S. With encouragement from some American friends, he moved to Florida, where he taught and coordinated at several major academies, including one run by former women’s tennis star Chris Everett. Sada coached several ranked juniors and USTA players.

Sada said he is enjoying life on the Peninsula and at the resort.

“I like the indoor courts here — the facilities are excellent,” he said. “I like the food. People are very friendly — more laid back than in Florida, where you have a lot of New Yorkers. There’s all the national parks nearby.”

Sada even enjoys the weather here, having tired of the Florida heat.

At the resort, Sada teaches 9 a.m. open clinics on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including a fast-paced cardio workout on Saturday in the style of his predecessor, Marsh Riggs. He offers a 10 a.m. clinic just for beginners on Saturday. A men’s clinic is at 9 a.m. Thursdays, a women’s clinic at 8 a.m. Tuesday. A new class specifically on men’s doubles strategies is on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening is a relaxed “fun night” open clinic at 6 p.m. For kids, Sada has a junior program 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays (ages 6-10) and Thursdays (11-16.)

The resort is located at 12417 Pacific Way, Long Beach. Its phone number is 360-642-3622.
