WARRENTON - The Naselle High School and Middle School cross country team ran in the Astoria Invitational Saturday on the Coffenbury Lake Course. The Naselle runners were only one of two Washington teams in the event with the rest of the teams from class 2A and 4A Oregon schools.

Coach Ryan Bjornsgard said, "The race is broken down by grades, with seventh graders running against other seventh graders, and so on. The kids did real well with Erin Saari winning her third straight race in what may be a course record (15:56 for 3,000 meters) for her grade level.

"Kyle Burkhalter finished third in the seventh grade race in 15:35. He won a ribbon by out-leaning the next runner at the finish line in a real exciting race. I felt that all of the kids did real well against runners from larger schools."

Other Naselle places and times: 9th (4,000 meters) Evan Hendrickson, 24, 19:32; Keegan McGuire, 30, 20:06; Aoy Marion, 31, 20:10'

(5,000+ meters) 10th grade: Cory Teubner, 15, 24:17; Ryan Nortrup, 19, 25:37; 12th grade (Boys): Zach Badger, 13, 24:24; Brandon Wirkkala, 14, 26:39; (Girls) Nora Darcher, 13, 30:52.
