Castle Rock shut out Ilwaco 2-0 Wednesday, Sept. 5. The Rockets controlled the ball early and were on the attack, but took a while to capitalize as goalkeeper Faith Richardson and Ilwaco’s defenders held the line. Castle Rock got on the board with a long, high kick that went over Richardson’s head but arced just under the top of the goal.

Early in the second half, midfielder Erika Glenn found forward Elle Personius in a one-on-one situation. Personius created a shot, but Castle Rock’s goal-keeper made a diving stop. Later, Personius pushed for another opportunity but dribbled into traffic, did not have a pass available, and the Rockets regained control. Castle Rock started going back on the attack. Glenn dived at the ball for a stop near the goal, then later came up with a steal and clear-out. Olivia Long kicked one away to disrupt another scoring chance. Finally, though, the Rockets came up with their second goal to go up 2-0.

Glenn pushed to create more opportunities in the final minutes, but Ilwaco players had trouble getting open on the break. Glenn nearly dribbled end-to-end on one play, but came up short.
